Practical Project – Short Film Recreation

Summary of this project

On Tuesday 5th December my lecturer placed me in a group and my group was  asked to recreate a scene from a film. The aim of this project is to increase our skills in filmmaking and our chosen job roles.

Furthermore, another aim of this project is to prepare myself for my next college assignment which is to create and produce a short film.

Below you will see my pre – production for this project too.

Pre – Production

Job roles

  • Assistant to sound technian
  • Sound editor (post production)
  • Location Recce

Location Recce

Riverside Cafe

Advantages

  • Plenty of space for the shooting of the production.
  • Appropriate space for film equipment.

Disadvantages

  • If the weather is bad e.g : rain, wind and snow. The production team will be unable to film.
  • This location can get full since it is used by the public and the RSC’s workers.

How to combat the disadvantages

  • If the weather is mild then the production team should use protective materials to protect the film equipment.
  • The production team must double check to see if this location is being used by the public and they must get permission from a staff member who works at the Riverside cafe if it will be okay to film and forbid anyone entering when filming is taking place.

Summary

Riverside Cafe is a good location for the production team because there is plenty of space to film and place equipment anywhere that will be used for filming. However, it might be difficult to film if the weather is severe and the cafe itself is used by the public and people who work at the RSC.

Bancroft Gardens

Advantages

  • A lot of areas to film scenes e.g.: bench, field, park, riverbank, and walk path.
  • There is once again plenty of room to place any equipment when filming is or not taking place.

Disadvantages

  • Convent Gardens is used by the public and if filming does take place here people could walk past when filming is taking place. This will cause the production to slow down.
  • If the weather is bad then the production won’t be able to take place at this location.
  • Depending on the aftermath of the weather, this could also cause some problems. For example, if filming takes place on the field  if the surface is: wet, muddy or slippery. Filming won’t be able to happen because someone could hurt themselves if they slip and it would not be apporitate to place any equipment anywhere from the aftermath of the weather as it could get damaged because of the surface.

How to combat the disadvantages

  • Make sure a member of the production team keeps an eye out on the public when filming is taking place.
  • Before filming begins the weather must be checked before filming takes place on the day of the shooting.
  • Check to see if the location is okay to film from the aftermath of the weather.

Summary

The Convent Gardens is another good location for the production to take place as their is lots of area to film different scenes. However, the disadvantages show that it may cause production to slow down.
