TV Production

WSIFTW (Wouldn’t Swap It For The World) TV program project

I had the role of being a sound operator when broadcasting episodes of a TV project called ‘Wouldn’t Swap It For The World’. The role of a sound operator is to operate a sound console that controls the sound levels of a TV show.

I felt that I performed very well when doing this job role as I understood what levels the presenter and guests mics needed to be at  and for the show. In addition, I was knew when to mute the volumes of mics, VT’s and title sequences when the director said to me they would be showing a VT or about to begin the broadcast.

I had plenty positive feedback from the production team and my lecturers when doing this job role. A few responsibilities that I did find difficult when doing this job role was controlling faulty sounds when broadcasting. For example, the mic volume in the TV studio produced a faulty sound in the gallery that me and several other people to be distressed by this sound and I had to quickly mute the mics too.  In addition, I had to be very quick when muting the sounds otherwise it would create problems when broadcasting.

To improve this job role for a future TV project I have set myself the following targets: be quick when muting the sounds and doing a proper volume test to prevent any faulty sounds produced in the gallery.

Task manager – TV show

My job role was being the sound operator for a TV game show called ‘Task manager’ a group did for their TV project. The role of my job for this tv show was to control microphone studio levels and VT sound levels. Also, I had assistance when doing this job role.

I felt that the assistance was very helpful when doing this job role. I understood the levels of the sound desk needed to be between certain numbers so it would balance microphone sound levels.

We had a tough start to the beginning of the show, as the 2nd presenter’s microphone battery became flat. However, after the batteries were replaced the rest of the TV show went very well.

To improve for this job role for another group’s TV show, I need to improve my technical knowledge of studio microphones. For example, If any studio microphone battery’s  go flat then there must be an extra microphone for the presenter or guest to use. In addition, I will do a second microphone test to hear if the microphones are working before broadcasting.
