Research Conclusion

  • On this page you find my conclusion for all my research results.

My ideas for my TV show and Why I choose this idea

To begin with, My TV product idea is to create a show called ‘Film4fans’ and the aim of the show is discuss about film products.

I choose this idea because based on my primary research survey results I asked people what their favourite TV category was and the most popular choice was film . Therefore, I decided to choose film as my category for my TV product.

My ideas for my Radio show and Why I choose this idea

My idea for my Radio product is to create a podcast using the same name from my TV product. The content of this podcast links to my other product too.

I choose this idea because based on my primary research radio survey results I asked my target audience what radio stations they listened too. Most of them choose mainstream stations such as radio one and Capital FM as the ones they listened to. Others listened to independent stations such as absolute radio or panjab radio. Therefore. I made a decision to make my radio product independent and talk about mainstream film content.

My chosen research methods and how my chosen methods made my research effective

My chosen research methods were effective because it helped me understand about which ideas are popular to make for my products. The responses from my target audience allowed me to think which ideas are the strongest to create for my products and further develop my chosen ideas.

For my primary research, I choose the following research methods: online survey, correspondence and focus group. My chosen research methods were effective because which ideas are the strongest for my TV product. An example of how my research helped me was when, I asked my focus group what ideas would be the strongest for a TV product in the film category, the most popular answer was a film news/review show.

Another example, was when I found out more about my target audience. I created a question for my target audiences  about their age and gender.  Most of the people who answered my TV survey were male and were between the ages of 17 to 22. These results made me think how I can aim my show at a wider gender demographic and age range.

For my secondary research, I choose the following research methods: internet research, existing content and films/dvd’s. These research methods helped me because it helped me develop my ideas more for my products.

An example of how my research helped me was when, I was researching existing film content for TV and radio. I found shows that I could be influenced by. For example, Mayo and Kermodes film review and BBC’s film. These influences will help because it can develop my product ideas.

Summarising my main research findings

An, important part was finding out about target audiences for TV and radio. One example is from my primary research results. I asked people  what music category people listen to on the radio. The most popular responses were Rock and pop. The least popular was grime.

I also wanted to find out what ideas people would like to see for a TV category. For example, the fourth question I asked my focus group was to see if they were interested in a show about comparing apple and Samsung technology for the lifestyle category. Thirteen people put their hand up for this question and were interested in watching this potential show idea.

My secondary research shows TV and radio products are aimed at audiences. For example: Film 94, the film program and Kermode and Mayo’s film review. These products are aimed at audiences who are into films.

Overall, these results show that media products aim their content at a certain target audience. This is because a product’s content is aimed at a target audience . In addition, it is important to find about age range and gender because then creators can figure out ways of how to aim their products at a more diverse target audience.

Final conclusion from my research

In summary, my research shows that TV and radio products appeal to target audiences that are interested in a products content. For example, if a TV product has a strong idea for the lifestyle category then it will appeal to the target audience.

Radio products are aimed at certain target audiences that interested in a type of genre. For example, radio one aims its music at mainstream target audiences because mainstream music appeals to that audience.

Age and gender are important for a media product because if a product focuses too much on one demographic and age range then, the product is not being aimed at a diverse audience. Finally, it is important that a media product has an influence because it can be helpful to a media product and help develop its ideas.

Has my research changed or developed my ideas

Yes, my research has changed and developed my ideas because I had multiple ideas for my products. My primary research showed me what TV category is popular with audiences and what ideas can work for that category.

I choose film as my category for my TV product and my secondary research helped me to understand how influences can help develop my media product ideas. Online research helped me think of new ideas for my products too.

My primary research also helped with my target audience because I learned how to aim my products at a diverse audience.
