Welcome back to my review of the Pokemon Sun and Moon anime! This time I will be reviewing episode 128. As always I will summarise the plot and give you my thoughts about it!
Plot Summary
The gang arrive at the Alola League stadium and are greeted by Kukui upon their arrival! Hau returns! And, its revealed his Dartrix evolved into a Decidueye! He also finally earned a Z-ring too!
Team Skull grunts are causing havok around the Alola league but are defeated by league particapants. Guzma and Kuki confront each other with Guzma promising to become the champion of the league so he can compete in a battle against the Masked Royal.
A flashback reavels why their relationship has been rocky. They were childhood friends and apprecatices of Hala. However, Guzma hated the old traditions of the Alola reigon (obtaning a Z-ring and crystal). So, he decided to rebel against this and create his own path.
During the ceramony a big twist is revealed!… League Partcipants will be competing in a battle royale and the remanining 16 will advance to the next round!
Plot Thoughts
This was a great episode! The Alola league is now starting and I look foward to the epic matches that will be taking place!
The two highlights of this episode for me was the backstory of Guzma/Kukui’s rocky friendship and the battle royale plot twist.
The backstory for Guzma and Kukui was well written as it establishes why their friendship has gone downhill as their attitudes/goals to become a trianer were different . Even the way Guzma looks at Kuki at the ceramony shows how much of grudge he holds against him. I hope to see their realtionship evolve to a respectful one as the series progresses.
The battle royale is one of the most brillant plot twists I have seen from the writers. I am really looking forward to seeing how the battle royale unfolds as everyone goes all out with their choosen Pokemon! This will defininalty be an episode worth watching!
My only criticsm of this episode is that they should of established the backstory of Kukui and Guzma much eariler on in the series as it does feel a bit rushed! If we saw Guzma much early on we could of have some brillant episodes building up to resolving their rivarly at the Alola League. As I have said before, this anime has so much potenial to have much more development for the story and characters!
Animation
The thunderstorm setting for the flashback was a great choice! As symbolically a thundestorm can mean a massive change. This is represented when Guzma decides to run away after deciding to take his own path.
Overall Opninions
What great way to start the league! Its nice seeing everyone who has made an apperance so far in the series make their return and the backstory of how Guzma and Kukui’s friendship went downhill. It does feel slighly rushed but I can’t wait to see how they will gain respect for each other again!
Next Week’s Episode (07/07/2019) – (The Great Fray! Battle Royal 151!)
On the next episode, a total of 151 particapants will be competing in a intesense battle royal! The remanining 16 will advance to the next round! Ash and Pikachu will be facing off against Jessie and Mimikyu!
If your a fan of pokemon anime battles I highly reccomend watching this episode! It will be filled with so much action. I can’t say anymore other then it will be epic!
